418 Wins, 62 Loss, 13 state titles , a streak of wins of 8 years, this all is impossible without some great coach. this book is all about this coach when his best students sit on Bleachers and discuss about this person when he was taking his last breaths.
Mr. john rake,legendary coach of messinia, and got embodied completely in messinian town soul. Neeley(Last one to get retired), paul, jessey, Mack(first one to get retired), smith(horrible defender), Rabbit all are the great players of there respective times. Neely came to the town to see his coach before he leaves this world. They all got sited on Bleachers(except jessey) at the 50 yard line, and recollecting there memories how Rake used to motivated them when they are taking there opponents. They was remembering all the good and bad memories attached with the coach. How a person becoming a coach in just 30 year of his life was able to affect this town so deeply, How in every difficulty they used to remeber words of this person instead of their parents, How cruel was training sessions at that time, and after all, they can't able to decide whether this person is good or bad!!
This is the same person because of which a very talanted player of 1990's lost his life while training, This was the same person who slaped Neely (one of the greatest player Messinia ever saw ) and broke his nose while in dressing room, a person who used to had training sessions even at 8 o'clock on sunday,time at which even prayers in church not got over.
But what so ever,deep into their hearts they respect their coach which affect them as well as thier town too much. They all saw a video of that match in which he slaped Neely ,and disussing in that match how they did something unreachable(they beat another club ,which was also undefetable at that time , that too without the support of this coach).
Neely is roaming in the town with paul and he found that still no one forget him even after 14 years. Till now also people save all the memories related to football legends of the town.
On next night they had a get together at the same bleachers where they got news that their coach is no more in this world. They all feel like some one cut their part from their body. Then Mack share a story of his life how he got traped in vitenaam in a river , and how at that time he only remembered the words of his coach(Don't Quit ,Don't Quit).
The very next day they all went to jail in which jessey was in. They told him that they talked with the jail autoirty and he suppose to came to say final good bye to his beloved coach . He is quite afraid to came, because he was that kind of player on which Rake had quite a lot of future expectations but he failed to fullfill the same. Then also he promised to came.
This was the friday,day on which all mesinia used to come on Rake field to saw their team to win. All previous players came in green jersey,color on mesinia club, Neely wearing no 19. while father is reading about the life of Rake , whole mesinan throats got chocked .
